Hanuman Pancharatnam English Translation #1

I now call to mind Hanuman, the son of the wind god,
gladdening to contemplate, who is free of all sensual
desires, who sheds tears of joy and is filled with rapture, who
is the purest of the pure and the first of Rama's messengers. 1.

I think of Hanuman, whose face is like the lotus, red like
the rising sun, the corners of whose eyes are full of the
feeling of mercy, who is life-giving, whose greatness  has
the quality of beauty, who personifies Anjana's good fortune.  2.

I seek refuge in the one who flies faster than the
arrows of madana, whose eyes wide as the petals of the lotus
are filled with kindness, whose neck is smooth and
well-formed as the conch shell, who represented good
fortune to the wind god, and whose lips are bright-red like the bimba fruit. 3.

May the form of Hanuman come resplendent before me, the
one that dispelled Sita's grief, that brought out the glory of
Shri Rama's prowess, that tore Ravana's reputation into shreds. 4.

I saw the leader of the Vanara (monkey) populace, the one
who was (inimical) like the sun's rays to the (night-blooming)
lily of the Danava people (the demonic race), who is
dedicated to the protection of those in distress, who
was the culmination of the accumulated penances of Vayu. 5.

He who recites this hymn to Hanuman, entitled "Pancharatnam,"
will become one with the devotees of Shri Rama after enjoying
for long the pleasures of this world.  6.

Hanuman Pancharatnam in Bengali and Sanskrit
Hanuman Pancharatnam English Translation #2
I now meditate of Hanuman, the son of Vayu, who is free from all desires for the enjoyment of objects, in whom the tears of joy rolled down coupled with horripilation, who is pure in heart, who is foremost among the messengers of Rama, and who is dear to the heart.
I desire to see Hanuman, the fortune of Anjana, whose lotus-face is red, whose side-glances are filled with the waters of compassion, who brought back to life all those who were dead in the battle and whose greatness in praiseworthy.
I take refuge only in Hanuman, who is the fortune of Vayu, who is above the shafts of Manmatha (the god of love), whose beautiful eyes are like the large petals of a lotus, whose neck resembles a conch and whose lips shine like the bimba fruit.
May the figure of Hanuman shine before me, the figure which dispelled the agonies of Sita, which manifested the might and glory of Rama and which destroyed the fame of the ten-headed Ravana.
I saw Hanuman the result of the fully developed austerity of Vayu, who was the leader of the multitude of monkeys, who was to the race of the Raakshas like the rays of the sun to the waterlily and who is dedicated to the protection of the distressed.
One who reads the Pancharatna Stotra of Hanuman, becomes a devotee of Sri Rama, after having enjoyed all objects for a long time in this world.

Annapurna Stotram in Bengali and Sanskrit

Annapurna Stotram in Bengali and Sanskrit - Annapurna Ashtakam

In this article, I will present Annapurna Stotram in Bengali and Sanskrit, or the Hymn to Goddess Annapurna.

It is also known as Annapurna Ashtakam. Annapurna or Annapoorna (Bengali: অন্নপূর্ণা, Devanagari: अन्नपूर्णा from Sanskrit meaning the giver of food and nourishment. Devi Annapurna is eulogized in Annada Mangal, a narrative poem in Bengali by Bharatchandra Ray.  Annapurna is usually depicted as a youthful goddess having red complexion with a face round like full moon, three eyes, high breasts and four hands. Though Annapurna is a popular deity, there are few temples dedicated to her, the most prominent being the Annapurna Devi Mandir and the Kasi Viswanath Temple in Varanasi.

Conversational Sanskrit Lesson - 1

On an experimental basis, I have started this Conversational Sanskrit series with video and text. This series is meant for children and young adult who want to learn Sanskrit, India's true National Language.

Below I present a Samskrit conversation between two people, Ram and Mohan, about a 3rd individual Udayan who is suffering from fever.

First I present the video for you to listen to the sentences and intonations.

Ram - Mohan, why is Udayan not studying?
Mohan - He has fever, hence he is not studying.
Ram - Is it true that he has fever?
Mohan - Not only does Udayan have fever, he is also very weak.
Ram - Is he eating or not? Please tell.
Mohan - He is not eating, but instead sipping a little milk.
Ram - When will he get cured?
Mohan - I do not know.

Conversational Sanskrit Word Meanings
किमर्थं - Why? For what reason?
ज्वरेण - By fever (Instrumental Case)
पीडितः - Afflicted
भक्षयति - Eating
भविष्यति - will be (Future Tense)
अल्पम् अल्पं - little portions from time to time. The first alpam end with म् because it is followed by a vowel अ. The second alpam ends with bindu because it is followed by a consonant द
पुनः - Again

 --- END  ---

Prayer to Goddess Sharada by Shri Shankaracharya

Prayer to Goddess Sharada by Shri Shankaracharya

In this post I will share a Prayer to Goddess Sharada by Shri Shankaracharya.

Sharada Devi (also spelled Sarada Devi) is another name of Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of Knowledge. Sharda is the goddess of the temple town of Sringeri. Sharada is the ancient Hindu/pre-Hindu Goddess of Knowledge, Art, Learning and Music. Sharada had an alphabet that was widely used across what is now Afganistan to Pakistan. As per experts, worship of Sharada dates back at least, 10,000 years BC.
